The owner had never had this refrigerator repaired. The technician found the compressor running and the sealed system intact, and the evaporator frozen into one solid block of ice.
Two heating elements on the coil had failed and shorted, and the defrost thermostat and timer went with them. Instead of replacing only the two broken parts, the technician replaced the whole defrost system with the temperature sensor.

Some days the dryer started and ran as it should; on others, with the same load, it did nothing. The technician tested both suspects and found two worn parts, a failed timer and a faulty door switch.
