Four Samsung Refrigerators We Repaired
I am Andrew Teodor. In Tampa Samsung is the brand my technicians open more than any other; in St. Petersburg it comes second and in Clearwater third. These four refrigerators are taken from our own job records: model, part number, final bill.
Samsung RF18HFENBSG, 11th Ave NE: ice packed into the cabinet, water on the kitchen floor
| Brand | Samsung RF18HFENBSG |
|---|---|
| Built | March 2019 |
| Street | 11th Ave NE, St. Petersburg, FL |
| Complaint | Ice building up inside the fridge, water leaking onto the floor |
| What failed | Blocked drain line |
| Visits | 1 |
| Total | $220 |
Two faults that look alike. Ice in the cabinet and water on the floor can come from a drain line that no longer carries the defrost water away, or from a defrost system that has stopped melting the coil. From the kitchen the two leave the same trail: frost, a fridge that drifts warm, now and then a new noise. Only testing separates them.
On this Samsung it was the drain. The unit was iced up badly, and the air ducts between the fridge and the freezer were frozen as well. My tech cleared the line, tested it and finished on that visit. A 2019 Samsung back in service for $220.
The rest of the St. Petersburg jobs, with parts and invoices, are on the St. Petersburg refrigerator repair page.
Samsung RF24R7201SG, Mandalay Ave: ice on the freezer floor, and a torn gasket behind it
| Brand | Samsung RF24R7201SG, counter-depth four-door |
|---|---|
| Built | March 2022 |
| Street | Mandalay Ave, Clearwater, FL 33767 |
| Complaint | Ice building up behind the drawer, water on the floor |
| What failed | Torn freezer door gasket |
| Parts | Door gasket DA97-12522T — $167 |
| Labor | $160 |
| Visits | 1 — gasket on the truck |
| Total | $327 |
Nothing wrong with the cooling. The compressor, the coil and the fans passed their tests and the cabinet held its temperature. The ice sat on the floor of the freezer compartment, and the water that reached the kitchen came from there. The cause was the freezer door gasket, split along one edge.
How it tore. Something sticky had been spilled in the freezer earlier, jam or similar, and had run into the seam where the gasket meets the cabinet. At freezer temperature it froze to the rubber. Each time the door opened the gasket clung and pulled a little further, until it gave. Warm air then reached the compartment, condensed and froze on the floor.
What we did. The unit was defrosted and the drain flushed, then the new gasket (DA97-12522T) went on straight from the truck after the seating area had been cleaned. The door closed tight and the ice stopped coming back.
In the photos:
1. The refrigerator: Samsung RF24R7201SG, a four-door French-door model with an ice and water dispenser, on Mandalay Ave.
2. The nameplate: model code RF24R7201SG, built March 2022.
3. The freezer compartment with the drawer taken out: bits of ice on the floor.
Problems on this job: a freezer door gasket split along one edge, ice on the floor of the freezer compartment and water reaching the kitchen floor.
A gasket on a unit like this should last 10 to 15 years. A damp cloth along the seal now and then keeps a spill from cutting that short. The full write-up is on the Clearwater refrigerator repair page.
Samsung RF24FSEDBSR/AA, Clementine Ln: water down the front, and the dispenser door was to blame
| Brand | Samsung RF24FSEDBSR/AA |
|---|---|
| Built | December 2018 |
| Street | Clementine Ln, Tampa, FL 33625 |
| Complaint | Water running from the dispenser area, ice building up in the bin |
| What failed | Dispenser door assembly — calcium on the flap, damaged seal |
| Parts | Dispenser assembly DA97-13829C — $152 |
| Labor | $180 |
| Visits | 1 — part on the van |
| Total | $332 |
The ice maker and the water valve, the first places to look, both passed their tests. The leak was higher up, in the dispenser door.
What was wrong there. The door has a flap that swings open when ice drops into the glass, with a seal around it that shuts the chute again. On this unit calcium from Tampa water had crusted the flap so that it stayed slightly ajar, and the seal had been damaged. Air from the room kept entering the chute, the ice waiting there melted, and the meltwater ran down the front panel.
What we did. My tech replaced the dispenser assembly (DA97-13829C), which he had on the van, washed the scale off everything it had reached, thawed and cleaned the ice maker zone and the bin, and serviced the unit. Same day.
In the photos:
1. The refrigerator: Samsung RF24FSEDBSR/AA on Clementine Ln.
2. The nameplate: model code RF24FSEDBSR/AA, built December 2018.
3. The dispenser mechanism opened up during the repair.
4. The removed dispenser assembly, with white mineral crust and debris on it.
Problems on this job: calcium on the dispenser flap, a damaged seal, meltwater running down the front of the cabinet and ice building up in the bin.
The full write-up is on the Tampa refrigerator repair page.
Samsung RF24R7201SR, Old Coach Trail: an ice maker left dead for six months
| Brand | Samsung RF24R7201SR, counter-depth four-door |
|---|---|
| Built | May 2021 |
| Street | Old Coach Trail, Clearwater, FL 33765 |
| Complaint | Ice maker not working for more than six months |
| What failed | Ice maker and auger motor case assembly |
| Parts | Auger motor case assembly DA97-12540K — $216 Ice maker DA97-13718C — $166 |
| Labor | $180 |
| Visits | 1 |
| Total | $562 |
The owner told my tech the ice maker had been dead for more than half a year; they had been waiting for a convenient day to call. The motor inside the ice maker still turned, but the part that ejects the ice did not move, and the whole zone was frozen: ice on the ice maker itself and on the compartment behind it, where the fan, a thermostat and the auger motor that pushes ice out of the bin are mounted.
What six months did. The fan sat locked in ice, kept trying to turn and burned out. The constant icing also corroded the contacts on the connectors that feed the auger motor.
What we did. Fitted a new ice maker (DA97-13718C) and a new auger motor case assembly (DA97-12540K), thawed the zone, cleared the drain and serviced the coil in the compressor bay.
In the photos:
1. The refrigerator emptied and opened for the repair, ice maker compartment at the top left.
2. The nameplate: model code RF24R7201SR, built May 2021.
3. The connectors, with corrosion on the contacts.
4. Two assemblies with their fans and wiring, side by side on the counter.
Problems on this job: an ice maker dead for more than six months, a fan locked in ice and burned out, and corroded contacts on the connectors that feed the auger motor.
We rarely replace an auger motor. When a dead ice maker is dealt with early, the ice maker is the only part that changes. Here the wait doubled the parts list and took the bill to $562, against $312 for an ice maker replaced on its own in St. Petersburg.
Samsung Dryers, a Washer and a Range We Repaired
The same job records, from the laundry room and the kitchen: three dryers, a washer and an oven range. Streets are given without house numbers, and every total is parts and labor.
Samsung dryer, 102nd Pl N: no heat, and lint had taken out the whole heating chain
| Brand | Samsung dryer |
|---|---|
| Street | 102nd Pl N, Clearwater, FL |
| Complaint | Dryer stopped heating |
| What failed | Heating element, three thermostats and the thermistor |
| Also done | Drum rollers lubricated, vent line and dryer interior cleaned, full cycle tested |
| Total | $296 (parts & labor) |
The dryer ran but gave no heat. After a full diagnostic my tech found lint built up to the point that it had killed the heating element, the thermostats and the thermistor.
He replaced the element, all three thermostats and the thermistor, then cleaned the vent line and the inside of the cabinet, lubricated the drum rollers and ran a full drying cycle. More dryer work is on the Clearwater dryer repair page.
Samsung dryer, Doral Dr: a burned-out element and a seized drum roller
| Brand | Samsung dryer |
|---|---|
| Street | Doral Dr, Sarasota, FL |
| Complaint | Dryer stopped producing heat |
| What failed | Heating element and a seized drum roller |
| Parts | Heating element, three thermostats, thermistor, drum roller |
| Visits | 1 — every part on the truck |
| Total | $316 (parts & labor) |
Heavy lint had burned the heating element out, and one drum roller had seized. My tech replaced the element, three thermostats, the thermistor and the roller, deep cleaned the inside of the dryer and ran a full cycle to confirm heat, airflow and drum rotation. Every part was on the truck, so the job was finished in one visit. More Sarasota work is on the Sarasota dryer repair page.
Samsung dryer, Beach Dr SE: no heat, and the cause was lint again
| Brand | Samsung dryer |
|---|---|
| Street | Beach Dr SE, St. Petersburg, FL |
| Complaint | Dryer stopped producing heat |
| What failed | Heating element, thermostats and thermistor |
| Also done | Full interior clean, vent cleared, drum rollers lubricated, full cycle tested |
| Total | $295 (parts & labor) |
Lint and debris inside the dryer had caused the heating element to fail, and the inspection also turned up damaged thermostats and a faulty thermistor. My tech replaced the element, three thermostats and the thermistor.
He dealt with the cause as well as the parts: the full clean and the cleared vent help keep the overheating from coming back. More dryer work is on the St. Petersburg dryer repair page.
Samsung washer, 49th St N: full of water and not draining
| Brand | Samsung washing machine |
|---|---|
| Street | 49th St N, Clearwater, FL |
| Complaint | Washer full of water, not draining |
| What failed | Drain pump |
| Visits | 1 — pump replaced the same day |
| Total | $343 (parts & labor) |
The washer could not finish a cycle and the drum stayed full. After the diagnostic my tech found that the drain pump had failed. He replaced it the same day, cleaned the drain line and tested a full drain and spin.
If your Samsung shows a code on the display instead, our Samsung washer error-code guide sorts the codes by cause.
Samsung range, 12th St S: an error code on the display and a dead oven and stove
| Brand | Samsung range (oven and stove) |
|---|---|
| Street | 12th St S, St. Petersburg, FL |
| Complaint | Oven and stove stopped working, error code flashing |
| What failed | Control board no longer communicating with the display board |
| Also done | Display board contacts cleaned, system calibrated, oven and stove tested |
| Total | $386 (parts & labor) |
Both the oven and the stove had stopped, and a code was flashing. The control board had lost communication with the display board, so nothing on the range could run. My tech replaced the control board, cleaned every contact on the display board, calibrated the system and tested the oven and the stove. The customer kept the range instead of buying a new one. More on the St. Petersburg oven repair page.

What Actually Fails on a Samsung
Over the last twelve months the parts my technicians replaced most often on Samsung refrigerators were fan motors, defrost thermostats, temperature sensors, main control boards, filter housings and restriction systems. They are small parts. The compressors run for a long time and have not been a recurring problem for us. Samsung fits a lot of electronics, control boards, sensors and touch panels, and those are what a power surge tends to damage.
- A gasket pulled apart by a spill
- The Mandalay Ave refrigerator was cooling normally. A jam spill had frozen to the freezer gasket, and every opening of the door tore it a little more. What the owner saw was ice and a wet floor.
- A drain line that stops draining
- Defrost water leaves through a narrow line. Once it blocks, the water pools, freezes and spreads into the air ducts, as it did on 11th Ave NE. A failed defrost system looks almost the same from outside, so the diagnosis is the job.
- Scale on the dispenser flap
- Calcium from the water crusts the flap in the dispenser door until it will not close, and the ice that thaws in the chute runs down the front of the cabinet. On Clementine Ln the flap was crusted and the seal around it damaged; the fix was a new dispenser assembly.
- An ice maker nobody dealt with
- A dead ice maker stays wired in and stays on the water line. After six months on Old Coach Trail it had taken the fan and the connector contacts with it. Caught early, it is one part.
- Lint in the dryer
- All three Samsung dryers above started with lint. It burned out the heating element, and the thermostats and the thermistor went with it: the same set of parts in each, for $295, $296 and $316. The Sarasota dryer needed a drum roller as well.
- A drain pump that gives up
- The Clearwater washer was still full of water at the end of the cycle. The drain pump had failed, and a same-day replacement got the machine finishing its cycles again.
- A control board that stops talking
- On the St. Petersburg range the control board had lost contact with the display board, which took out both the oven and the stove. A new board and clean display contacts saved the range.
What Samsung Repair Costs in Tampa Bay
Most shops in Tampa Bay keep their numbers to themselves. These are ours: nine Samsung jobs closed in four of our cities, each total covering parts and labor.
| Samsung appliance and complaint | What it was | Total |
|---|---|---|
| Refrigerator: ice inside, water on the floor | Blocked drain line | $220.00 |
| Dryer: no heat (St. Petersburg) | Heating element, three thermostats, thermistor | $295.00 |
| Dryer: no heat (Clearwater) | Heating element, three thermostats, thermistor | $296.00 |
| Dryer: no heat (Sarasota) | Heating element, three thermostats, thermistor, drum roller | $316.00 |
| Refrigerator: ice behind the drawer, water on the floor | Freezer door gasket | $327.00 |
| Refrigerator: water down the front, ice in the bin | Dispenser door assembly | $332.00 |
| Washer: full of water, not draining | Drain pump | $343.00 |
| Range: error code, oven and stove dead | Control board | $386.00 |
| Refrigerator: ice maker dead for six months | Ice maker and auger motor case assembly | $562.00 |
Range across those nine jobs: $220 to $562. Eight of the nine came in under $400 and the middle job sits at $327. The outlier is the refrigerator whose ice maker waited six months. Approve a repair and the visit itself costs nothing; the $79 call is billed only when you hear the diagnosis and decide against the work. For scale, a new counter-depth four-door Samsung like the ones in two of these jobs lists at roughly $2,300 to $2,800 at current retail prices.

When a Samsung Is Not Worth Repairing
- Where we draw the line
- When the full repair reaches about half the price of a comparable new unit, we tell you so and leave the decision with you. Past 60 percent we tell you to buy new.
- Condition beats age
- A refrigerator that has run well for years and is otherwise sound is worth fixing when a fan motor, a water valve, a filter housing or an ice maker fails. Those are wear parts, and a new unit would need them too. Build matters more than age: the older, roughly football-sized compressors tend to run 12 to 15 years, and the ones in current units are about half that size and give 4 to 6. The 2019 Samsung on 11th Ave NE needed a cleared drain line and $220, not a new refrigerator.
- What makes us say replace it
- Rarely one fault. The pile decides: a compressor already making the wrong noises, tired door gaskets, insulation foam that has collapsed so the outer wall frosts, a leak in the sealed system that would need most of it rebuilt, or salt water that has got into the electronics at the bottom of the cabinet.
Check These Before You Book
Some of our calls end with nothing to repair. These come up most often:
- Nothing responds on the panel and the temperature will not move: check the control lock first. It is usually set by holding one button, or several together, and the display gives no sign that it is on.
- The unit is dead but the outlet is live: many models can be switched off from the panel, with two or three keys held for 3 to 5 seconds. It happens by accident while someone wipes the front, and the same keys switch it back on.
- The dispenser quit or slowed to a trickle after a filter swap: reseat the cartridge first, and check that it is an original one. The ice maker takes its water from the same line, so it stops too.
- Jam or syrup spilled in the freezer: wipe along the gasket and into its seam with a damp cloth. Once it freezes onto the rubber, every opening of the door pulls at the seal. That was the $327 job above.
- An ice maker that has stopped: switch it off at the panel until it is repaired. Left on, it keeps asking for water it cannot freeze, and the water lands on the ice already in the bin and cracks it.
- A dryer that has stopped heating: lint was behind all three Samsung dryers above. Clear the lint trap before you call; if the heating element has already burned out, cleaning will not bring it back.

Samsung Repair in Tampa Bay: Questions We Get
How much does Samsung appliance repair cost in Tampa Bay?
Our nine closed Samsung jobs ran from 220 to 562 dollars, parts and labor included, and the middle one came to 327. Dryers with a failed heating chain landed between 295 and 316, the washer with a bad drain pump at 343, the range with a dead control board at 386. The refrigerator that waited six months for its ice maker was the 562. The service call is free with any repair; if you hear the diagnosis and decide not to repair, it is 79 dollars. The full table is on this page.
What usually fails on a Samsung refrigerator?
Over the last twelve months we replaced fan motors, defrost thermostats, temperature sensors, main control boards, filter housings and restriction systems more often than anything else. Mostly small parts: the compressors run long and have not been a recurring problem. The four refrigerators on this page were a torn freezer gasket, a blocked drain line, a scaled dispenser flap and an ice maker left dead for six months.
Why did my Samsung dryer stop heating?
On the three Samsung dryers on this page, in St. Petersburg, Clearwater and Sarasota, lint had burned out the heating element, and the thermostats and the thermistor were replaced along with it. The vent and the cabinet were cleaned at the same visit. Totals were 295, 296 and 316 dollars. A different fault can look the same from outside, which is why the diagnostic comes before any quote.
My Samsung washer will not drain. What was it on the one you fixed?
The Clearwater washer on this page was full of water and could not finish a cycle. The drain pump had failed. My tech replaced it the same day, cleaned the drain line and ran a full drain and spin; the job came to 343 dollars. If your Samsung shows a code instead, the error-code guide sorts the codes by cause: supply hoses, leaks, filling, drainage, door lock and an unbalanced load.
Is a Samsung worth repairing once it is several years old?
Condition decides, not the year on the data plate. The Samsung on 11th Ave NE was built in March 2019 and went back to work for 220 dollars after a drain line was cleared. Our rule: when the full repair reaches about half the price of a comparable new unit we tell you and leave the decision with you; past 60 percent we say buy new.
Do you charge for the service call?
Not when you go ahead with the repair. You pay only if you hear the diagnosis and the price and decide against the work: 79 dollars, and nothing after that.
Can you come out the same day?
Often. We work 8 AM to 7 PM, seven days a week, across Tampa, Clearwater, St. Petersburg, Sarasota and Bradenton. Three of the nine jobs on this page were finished with parts that were already on the truck. When a part has to be ordered, you hear the wait before you approve anything.
Which Samsung appliances do you repair?
Refrigerators, freezers and ice makers, washers, dryers, dishwashers, ovens, ranges and cooktops. The jobs above come from our own records for refrigerators, dryers, a washer and a range, and every appliance has its own page linked further up.
What warranty do you give?
90 days on parts and labor.
