Dryer
Makes Noise
In most dryer models, noise problems often stem from damaged rollers on which the drum rotates, or from wear and tear caused by dirt and dust. Another common issue is belt tension problems, which can occur when the dryer is frequently overloaded. For a detailed description of these and other issues, as well as their solutions, see the article below. We recommend cleaning the inside of your dryer every 6-8 months to help prevent repairs and part replacements. Many people think that just cleaning the filter is enough, but that’s not the case. Main Issues When Dryer Makes Noise
Description and Troubleshooting of Problems
Rollers Are Damaged
In most dryer models, the drum rotates on rollers, and depending on the model, there can be either 2 or 4 rollers. Often, one or more of these rollers can become damaged and produce noises such as squeaking, light banging, or rubbing sounds. Additionally, there’s a tensioner roller that keeps the belt tight, and this roller can also fail. Most of the time, rollers break down due to dirt and dust inside the dryer, which can clog or block the rollers. To fix this issue, you don’t always need to replace the rollers. Often, a thorough cleaning of the dryer, including the rollers, and lubricating them can resolve the problem. If the rollers are damaged, they need to be replaced. If one roller is damaged, we recommend replacing all of them because the remaining old rollers might still make noise if they are worn out compared to the new one.
Belt Is Damaged
In dryers, the belt is used to rotate the drum by connecting the motor, tensioner roller, and drum. If the belt is partially damaged, such as getting caught on a roller and tearing, it will still work but might create a squeaking noise if parts of the belt wrap around the roller or motor. A common cause of belt damage is overloading the dryer with too many items. To fix this issue, you’ll need to replace the belt, clean the inside of the dryer, and, if the problem persists, replace the tensioner roller. Another cause of belt problems can be debris and dust inside the dryer, which can obstruct the tensioner roller and belt, causing damage. We recommend cleaning the inside of your dryer every 6-8 months to help prevent repairs and part replacements.
Some Objects Have Gotten Inside
A common cause of noise in a dryer can be small items that you might have forgotten in your pockets, such as coins, parts of toys, jewelry, or earrings. These items can fall into the drum or get caught under the blades, creating constant noise that might sound like a loud clunk or squeak. Small objects can also get stuck between the drum’s seal and the front panel, often resulting in a strong squeaking sound. To fix this issue, you may just need to clean and lubricate the dryer. However, if the problem has been ongoing and the dryer has continued to be used, you might need to replace parts such as seals or felt pads that may have been damaged. We strongly recommend contacting us as soon as you notice or hear a problem with your appliance. Based on our experience, addressing issues early can significantly reduce repair costs, often resolving the problem with just a thorough cleaning.
Faulty Motor
The motor in a dryer can also make noise if it’s damaged or very dirty. You might notice that, even if the motor is still running, it can produce unusual sounds and often stops working. The motor has a built-in protection mode that shuts it down for 5-10 minutes if it overheats, allowing it to cool down before restarting. In many cases, cleaning the motor and all internal parts of the dryer can resolve the issue. However, if the motor is already damaged, it will need to be replaced. Motors generally have a long lifespan and rarely break down.
Dryer Is Very Dirty Inside
Many people believe that simply cleaning the filter is enough for maintaining a dryer, but that’s not the case. Inside the dryer, a lot of dust and debris accumulates, clogging components and causing them to wear out more quickly. For a thorough cleaning, you’ll need the help of our technicians, who will disassemble the entire dryer, including the drum, and clean all parts and components. Attention should also be given to the ventilation, which often becomes blocked as well. Dryer manufacturers recommend cleaning every 6-8 months for safety reasons. Dust inside the dryer can come into contact with the heating element, posing a fire risk. Our technicians will handle the cleaning and maintenance of your dryer. Regular maintenance every 6-8 months can significantly extend the life of your dryer and help avoid costly repairs. You can schedule maintenance every 7 months, and we will remind you and arrange the appointment.
