    Description and Troubleshooting of Problems

Bake or Broil Element Is Not Working

A common cause of incorrect oven temperatures is a malfunctioning or improperly working bake element. When you turn on the oven to heat up, both the bake and broil elements work together to ensure even heating. However, the bake element does most of the work, as it is used more frequently. Over time, this leads to wear and tear, making it more likely to fail. The bake element can either stop working entirely due to a break or function partially, which prevents the oven from reaching the desired temperature. One common reason for a bake element to fail is when food or liquid spills onto it during cooking, causing damage. The broil element, on the other hand, lasts longer since it is located at the top and is used less often compared to the bake element.

    Solution

Upon careful inspection and testing of the two heating elements, a technician can confidently determine whether they are functioning properly. Often, uneven heating or insufficient temperature is caused by just one faulty heating element. If that’s the case, the defective element needs to be replaced.

Convection Fan Does Not Work Correctly

The convection fan is responsible for circulating hot air inside the oven, ensuring even cooking of your food. If the convection fan isn’t working properly, it may result in uneven heating due to incorrect rotation speed. This can cause your dishes to burn or take longer to cook. In most oven brands and models, an error code for incorrect temperature or a malfunctioning fan may appear on the display. Some ovens use two convection fans, and if one fails, it can negatively affect the oven’s performance as well.

    Solution

If the convection fan is receiving power but isn’t spinning, it likely needs to be replaced. However, a common reason for a convection fan to stop working is blocked fan blades. Over time, metal can slightly deform due to heat and age, causing the fan blades to become obstructed. In such cases, you might initially hear a noise resembling metal scraping against metal. If the issue is due to metal deformation, it can often be repaired. However, if the fan has remained in a blocked state for an extended period, it’s likely that the fan will need to be replaced.

    Control Board Is Malfunctioning

The control board is the «brain» of your oven, managing the operation of all components like the heating elements, convection fan, and temperature sensor. Data from the temperature sensor is transmitted to the control board, ensuring everything works smoothly. A failure in a single relay or resistor on the control board can disrupt the entire oven’s functionality. Common causes of control board failure include power surges, interruptions during cooking, short circuits in the heating elements or convection fan, and, surprisingly, pests like cockroaches that can damage the board. When the control board malfunctions, you might see error codes on the display indicating poor connections, a faulty control board, or the oven may not respond or turn on at all.

    Solution

In most cases, a malfunctioning control board needs to be replaced. However, sometimes the issue may be caused by a loose connection, broken contacts, or a damaged fuse. In such instances, the control board can often be repaired on-site, allowing your oven to continue serving you reliably for a long time.

Temperature Sensor Is Not Working Correctly

The temperature sensor monitors the heat inside the oven and sends this data to the control board, which adjusts the heating accordingly. If the sensor malfunctions and provides incorrect readings, it can lead to the oven overheating or not heating enough. You might notice the oven signaling that it’s preheated and ready, but your food either burns or remains undercooked—this is often a sign of a faulty temperature sensor. In some cases, the oven’s display may show error codes related to incorrect temperature, prolonged heating, or a sensor malfunction. However, error codes typically appear only when the sensor completely stops working.

    Solution

The temperature sensor is located inside the oven, and during cooking, grease often builds up on it, leading to inaccurate temperature readings and improper oven performance. To resolve this, clean the sensor using a soft, damp cloth when the oven is turned off and cooled down. Avoid using sharp objects, as they can damage the sensor’s outer layer. However, if the temperature sensor is not functioning or is providing inaccurate readings, it will need to be replaced.
