Washer Smells Burning

Reasons Why the Washer Smells Burning

Description and Troubleshooting of Problems

Not Properly Installed Water Supply Hoses

Possible codes: 14C2, 4C2, 4E2, CE, nF1.

Solution

Disconnect the washing machine from the power supply and allow yourself access to the back of the appliance. Check that the water supply hoses are correctly installed. You need to ensure that the hot water hose is connected to the hot water inlet and the cold water hose to the cold inlet respectively. If you find a wrong connection, swap the hoses. Now restart the washing machine and run a test cycle to make sure that the problem has been corrected.

Washer Is Leaking

Possible codes: 1C, 1 1C, 1 LC, 1E, LC, LE, LC1

These codes indicate that either your washing machine is leaking or the water level sensor is defective.

Solution

Start by diagnosing the problem. Inspect the area under the washer and around it for excess water. Next, you should check the hoses and connections for damage. There could also be looseness in this system. In case everything looks intact, consider whether you are putting in too much detergent. The codes above may appear due to too much foam. To clean the system, run a rinse cycle without laundry or detergent. If the problem persists, a faulty water sensor may need to be replaced.

The Water Is Filling Incorrectly

Possible codes: 1 4C, 4C, 4E, nF.

Solution

The water faucets must be fully open, make sure this is the case. Also remember to check that hoses are connected to the correct inlets. Water flow can be restricted by kinks or clogs in the hoses, your job is to try and find them. If you find damage in the hoses, they need to be replaced.  The inlet filters should be checked for deposits and cleaned if necessary. After such diagnostics and troubleshooting, you should disconnect the washing machine from the power supply, wait a minute, then turn it back on and run the wash cycle to check.

Water Won’t Drain

Possible codes: 1 5C, 5C, 5E, SC, SE.

If your washing machine doesn’t drain well, the cause could be due to several problems. For example, it could be a clogged drain line, a broken drain pump, a faulty door lock, the machine may not complete a cycle for safety reasons, a very dirty filter, and a faulty water pressure switch.

Solution

Never inspect the inside of the machine immediately after a wash cycle. The water remaining in the drum is hot! So first, turn off the washing machine and disconnect it from the power supply. Wait for the water to cool down. Then you need to check several components for cleanliness. So, check the drain hose for kinks, clogs or damage. Next, be sure to remove the filter and clean it of debris. Also check the operation of the drain pump. If the diagnosis and cleaning is positive, run a spin or drain cycle to make sure the problem is solved. If water still remains in the machine, we recommend the assistance of a professional technician.

The Washer Door Isn’t Closed and Locked

Possible codes: 1 dC, 1dC1, 1dC4, dS, d5, FL, LO, L0, dC1, dC, dE, dE1, dE2.

Solution

The diagnosis is to make sure that nothing is stuck between the door and the seal. Close the door so that it latches, i.e. it must be closed tightly, but do so carefully. Now inspect the latch and anything nearby for signs of wear or damage. If you find that the lock mechanism is broken, it will likely need to be replaced by a professional.

Load Is Not Balanced Evenly

Possible codes: 1Ub, 1U6, dc, U6, Ub, UE, Ur.

Solution

If your washing machine has a wash cycle interrupt function, stop the cycle and spread the items evenly across the drum to balance the weight. Make sure that the weight of the laundry in the machine matches the manufacturer’s recommendations (some machines have a weighing function). Avoid mixing heavy and light fabrics in the same load. Restart the cycle and watch for further error messages.

    • My Samsung washer is showing error code 3E4, and I can’t find what it means in the manual. Can you please tell me what this code stands for and how to fix it?

      • Hi Ava! This error code usually indicates a communication issue between the main control board and the motor. Try unplugging the machine for 5 minutes to reset it. If the error persists, you may need professional service to check wiring or replace a control board.

    • What should I do if my Samsung washing machine displays the error code LC2, but the manual only mentions LC, which indicates a water leak, and there’s no mention of LC2? How can I determine what exactly is broken and how to fix it?

      • Hello David! Both codes are related to water leakage or the activation of the leak sensor. However, LC2 usually indicates not an actual water leak, but rather a problem with the leak sensor, wiring, or control board. First, check if there is any water under the machine. Next, inspect the supply and drain hoses to ensure they are not damaged and are securely attached. Unplug the washer for 5-10 minutes, then plug it back in and check if the error goes away. If you don’t find any water under or around the machine but still see the error, it’s likely that the leak sensor is faulty. In this case, professional diagnostics are needed.
