Errors for Top-Loading Maytag Washing Machines

    Draining Issues

    Possible codes: Drn.

The washer displays this code when it can’t drain water properly.

    Solution

Check the installation of the drain hose. Make sure the hose is properly installed, not clogged, and not kinked. The end of the hose should not be inserted too far into the drain to avoid a siphoning effect. If there’s a drain filter, check it as well. It might need to be cleaned. If the issue remains after these steps, the problem might be with the pump. In that case, we recommend contacting a specialist.

    System Errors

    Possible codes: F#, E#, F##, PF.

     F#, E#, F## – system errors, PF – power failure.

    Solution

For system errors, press Start/Pause to reset the code. Restart the cycle. Contact a specialist if the error remains. For PF, hold Start to restart the cycle after a power outage.

    Unbalanced Load

    Possible codes: Ofb, OL.

Ofb — Unbalanced load, OL — Oversized load.

    Solution

For unbalanced load, open the lid, redistribute the load evenly, and restart the cycle. For oversized load, remove some items and restart the wash.

    Washer Door Can’t be Locked

    Possible codes: LdL, LdU.

LdL – Lid cannot lock, LdU — Lid cannot unlock.

    Solution

For Lid cannot lock — check the lock for any obstructions. For LdU — remove any items resting on the lid.

    Fill Cycle Takes Too Long

Possible codes: LF, Lo FL, F8 E1.

    Solution

Check the water supply: both faucets should be fully open.

    Other Issues

    Possible codes: HC, Lid, Sud.

    • HC — Hot and cold inlet hoses reversed
    • Lid — Lid left open
    • Sud — Excessive suds

    Solution

Code HC: Switch the hot and cold water inlet hoses. Code Lid: Close the lid to continue the cycle. Code Sud: Make sure the proper detergent is used, remove the suds manually.

Error Codes for Front-Loading Maytag Washing Machines

    Control & Operation Errors

Possible codes: LOC, LC, Int, Other F# E# code.

LOC, LC — Control lock activated

    Int – Cycle interrupted

    F# E# codes – Other errors

    Solution

For control lock activated, press (or press and hold) the control lock button to unlock. For Cycle interrupted, press “Pause” or “Cancel” twice. If the code doesn’t disappear, unplug the machine for one minute. For F# E# codes, unplug the machine for one minute and plug it back in. If it doesn’t help — contact a specialist.

    Detergent & Dispenser Issues

    Possible codes: dET, F8 E2.

dET — Detergent cartridge was not detected

F8 E2 — Dispenser system issue (select models)

    Solution

For Detergent cartridge was not detected, check that the cartridge is installed correctly. Ignore if using single-dose detergent. For Dispenser system issue, make sure the dispenser is not clogged with detergent.

    Possible code: F5 E2.

F5 E2 — Door is not locking properly

    Solution

For Door is not locking properly, check if any items are blocking the door lock mechanism.

    Possible codes: rL, F34, F7 E1.
rL, F34 — Items detected during a clean washer cycle
    F7 E1 — Motor speed sensing error

    Solution

For Items detected during a clean washer cycle, remove all items from the drum and restart the cycle. For Motor speed sensing error, make sure the shipping bolts are removed and the load isn’t too large.

    Low Water Flow Issues

Possible codes: F8 E1, LO FL.

    Solution

For Low water flow, check the water pressure and condition of the inlet hoses (kinks, clogs).

    Drainage & Suds Issues

Possible codes: F9 E1, Sud, Sd

      • Could you explain in more detail how to remove excess suds when the “Sud” error appears?

        • Hi Easton! Start by waiting 10–20 minutes without doing anything. Most Maytag washing machines are designed to run extra rinse and drain cycles when excess suds are detected, so the error may clear on its own. If the error doesn’t go away, you’ll need to clean the drum manually. Turn off the washer and open the door if it’s not locked. Drain the water using the emergency drain filter (usually located at the bottom front panel), then wipe out the drum to remove any remaining suds. Excess suds can clog the drain filter or slow down water drainage. Clean the filter and make sure the drain hose isn’t kinked. This will help remove water and leftover suds faster. Once you’ve manually removed the excess suds, run a rinse and spin cycle without detergent to fully flush the system.
